We're presuming you're here because you want to help reduce the number of teens getting pregnant in St Helens, and that's great news as we've got advice on how exactly YOU can help! Here is our simple 3 step guide to get your school/college or agency involved:
- Join
Sign up for TAZ school Drop-in
School/college drop in's are an effective way to allow young people the opportunity to access sexual health services without visiting the clinic. We can't offer everything we do in the clinic, but we can offer condoms, pregnancy testing, STI testing, information and advice on contraception, and signposting to the clinic. These drop-ins are a great way to introduce young people to our service, they are staffed by an experienced outreach team who specialises in working with young people. To sign up your school to TAZ drop in's please contact TAZ directly at TAZ@sthk.nhs.uk.

Sign up your school/agency for the condom Distribution Scheme
Condoms are a simple yet effective method that helps to prevent both unplanned pregnancies and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). If purchased in a store, they can be expensive, but we offer them for free at pick-up points across St Helens. To ensure the scheme is successful, we need pick-up points in convenient venues, including schools! Whether you want to join or just want to advertise our pick-up points, we're happy to have you on board. Please click here for more information.
- Educate
Attend Our In-Person Training Sessions
We offer training to professionals that want to gain confidence while talking about sex and relationships and Top tips to starting the conversation with young people. Depending on which training you choose, these can vary from 2 days to 2 hours. You can book any of our upcoming training directly on Eventbrite.
Complete our online e-learning
We recommend professionals complete our e-learning package prior to attending our in-person training courses. Our e-learning packages provide the basics on contraception, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), Sex and the Law, HIV, LGBT+, and even going Back to Basics with the anatomy, reproduction, conception and more. Even if you don't want to attend our in-person training these e-learning courses are a great way to refresh your knowledge while you relax with a brew! Please click here for our e-learning.
Implement our DIYRSE package into your PSHE curriculum
The Do It Yourself Relationships & Sex Education (DIY RSE) training package enables educators to confidently deliver their own Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) lessons to young people. Upon completion of the training course, facilitators will be provided with a toolkit, which includes resources, guidance, and information to facilitate an RSE lesson. All activities within this toolkit are designed to be inclusive and adaptable to your facilitation style so that you can deliver the topic in a way that is most appropriate for you and your learners. Please click here for further information or to request your package.
Sign up your students for our targeted group workshops
While schools now have a responsibility to deliver the RSE curriculum, there may be some students that require further education. The TAZ Workshops are group educational sessions that are aimed at young people aged between 13-18 that are at an increased risk of poor sexual health or teen pregnancy. Please click here for further information or book workshops for your school.
- Promote
Display our posters
Display our posters around your school advertising our clinic, our contact details, and social media.
It is important that young people know where to go and get contraception and emergency contraception. Displaying our posters in your school or venue is a great way to help us advertise our service to young people. Click here to download and print. If you don't have the facilities to print, please contact the team taz@sthk.nhs.uk.
We're keen to work with schools to create new ways of promoting our service, drop-ins, and key health messages. Our promotion includes but is not limited to, PNG/JPEG, MP4s for display screens/computer screens, school websites, student/staff/parent newsletters, and student journals/diaries. Please click here for our current collection and please get in contact if you can think of a new way we can promote in schools, we'd love to hear from you!
Signpost students to the TAZ drop-in at your school
Signing up your school or venue for a TAZ drop is a great way to help reduce teen pregnancy. However, without school support to advertise our drop-ins, young people won't know we offer the drop-in in their school. We have consistently found our most successful drop in's are in schools that work with us to promote the drop-in. Please contact TAZ@sthk.nhs.uk for your school posters.
Perhaps you're worried about someone in particular?
One to One support – if you're particularly worried that a young person is at increased risk of teen pregnancy, you can refer them to TAZ for one to one support.
- Do you work with parents/carers?
Parents/carers have a profound influence on their children and a great deal of what they learn is from the family home. While most parents may understand the importance of talking to their children about relationships and sex, most may not have the confidence. We provide a Parent's Section on our website that guides them through the journey; from education to starting those tricky conversations.
