TAZ One to One (1:1) support is available for St Helens residents aged between 13-18 that are at an increased risk of teenage pregnancy or poor sexual health. A TAZ referral must be completed for young people to be considered for one to one support.
- What is available through 1:1 intervention with TAZ
- Support to reduce the risk of early parenting or poor sexual health
- Support for young people to help them make positive choices about sex and relationships
- Support to help young people to make effective contraception choices (including long acting reversible contraception)
- Advice and guidance around pregnancy choices, including termination of pregnancy
- Interventions to encourage safer sex and reduce risk of STIs
- What is available through 1:1 intervention with TAZ
Professionals can refer young people for 1:1 support via the TAZ referral form. The referral form must be completed for each young person referred and both the young person and their parents/carers MUST consent to the 1:1 support. We cannot contact or provide support without this consent. Please make sure you complete the referral carefully, incomplete forms may lead to a delay in case allocation. We aim to allocate cases or place them on the waiting list within 10 working days.
Some referrals require additional information before a decision can be made. We will attempt to contact the referrer on three separate occasions before the case is rejected. Once rejected, a new referral will need to be submitted.
If you require guidance while completing the form, please contact the team at TAZ@sthk.nhs.uk or 07795452161.
- Are all referrals accepted?
Unfortunately, we are not able to accept all the referrals we receive. The most common rejection reasons include people younger than 13 or older than 18, and young people living outside St Helens. Some referrals may not meet the criteria but we may be able to offer group education sessions via school. If you are a school referring several students, please consider this option before submitting referrals. Please don't hesitate to contact the team to discuss this at TAZ@sthk.nhs.uk or 07795452161.

If a young person is not a St Helens resident/LAC under St Helens Local Authority but attends school in St Helens, there may be other options available, please contact the team at TAZ@sthk.nhs.uk or 07795452161.
- What is I suspect Child Exploitation, abuse, or Harmful Sexual Behaviour?
We are not the appropriate service to deal with confirmed or suspected child exploitation, child abuse, or high levels of Harmful Sexual Behaviour (HSB). If you suspect the young person is in immediate danger, please contact the police.
For Child Exploitation please contact Catch 22 and for HSB or abuse please contact St Helens Social Services.
We may be able to accept low-level HSB but they must be assessed using the St Helens Council HSB tool prior to referral to TAZ. For more information please click here.
- Do you offer counselling or mental health support?
TAZ 1:1 support is not a counselling or mental health service. To ensure young people receive the care and support they deserve, we recommend a more appropriate service such as CAMHS, RASAC (rape support centre), Listening Ear, Barnardos Resilience Team, and Kooth.
