What’s the big deal about relationships?

 

Relationships, like people, come in all shapes and sizes. They can be long term or not so long, they can be sexual or not, they can be the most exciting times, and they can also make you feel sad. 

 

However, if you are in an intimate relationship (you have a boy/girl/themfriend) there are a few important things that can help make your relationship a healthy one:

 

Respect – both of you feeling able to be yourselves and express your own personality

 

Consent – only doing the things that you’re both comfortable with. Relationships and sex should make us feel happy, so if you ever feel pressured to do things you’re not comfortable with it’s okay to say “No”. Remember that pressuring somebody else to do things they’re not comfortable with can have very serious consequences too.

 

Spending time apart – making time for your family and friends, away from your partner. You might want to be with them all the time but spending time apart and doing your own thing will only make your times together even better – try it!

 

Communication – being honest about how you feel, about things you like and the things you’re comfortable doing together.  It’s not always easy to do, but the sooner you start to do this, the easier it will become, and the better your relationship will be.
